The Helm of Awe, Ægishjálmr, was traditionally used by Norse warriors and mythic figures as a symbol of protection and power, often before battles to instill fear in enemies and invoke invincibility. According to the sagas, the dragon Fafnir used the Helm of Awe to terrify those who sought his treasure, and it was believed that warriors would draw or carry this symbol to shield themselves from harm and bolster their courage. Though primarily a mystical symbol, it was also thought to be physically inscribed or worn during moments of combat or personal challenge.
